Student in critical condition after collapse in Halkidiki

A 17-year-old student remains in critical condition following a sudden cardiac arrest at his school in Pefkochori, Halkidiki, on September 18, 2026. The incident occurred after 10:30 a.m. when the student collapsed in the schoolyard, prompting school staff to contact emergency services and a local private doctor, Konstantinos Lazaridis, who is also vice president of the organization KIDS SAVE LIVES.

Upon arriving at the scene within three minutes, Dr. Lazaridis discovered the student was in cardiac arrest and not breathing. A defibrillator was used to deliver an initial shock, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed until the National Center for Emergency Care (EKAB) arrived. Although the student regained a heartbeat temporarily during the efforts, he subsequently suffered another cardiac arrest. He is currently intubated at the Coronary Unit of the Hippokratio Hospital in Thessaloniki, suffering from severe cerebral edema, and his condition remains hemodynamically unstable as doctors prepare for further examinations.

Medical teams continue to monitor the patient closely as he receives intensive care. The student remains in the hospital while specialists evaluate his condition for further treatment steps.
