Bicommunal cleanup event held in Nicosia for World Cleanup Day

On Saturday, September 19, 2026, dozens of volunteers participated in a bicommunal cleanup operation across the divided capital of Nicosia to mark World Cleanup Day. Organized by the NGO 'Let’s Do It! Cyprus' in cooperation with the Green Action Movement, the initiative involved volunteers starting simultaneously at 09:30 from the Faneromeni Church and the Büyük Han. The teams cleaned the Venetian walls before converging at the Home for Cooperation around 11:00.

The event received support from Nicosia mayors Charalambos Prountzos and Mehmet Harmanci, the Irish Ambassador Sarah Hamilton, and the Indian High Commission, which provided participants with t-shirts featuring Mahatma Gandhi. Mayor Prountzos praised the initiative for its message of social participation and environmental protection, emphasizing the importance of the bicommunal collaboration in addressing shared urban issues.
