Luxembourg Airport halts operations due to unauthorized drone sightings

Luxembourg authorities have launched an investigation following the discovery of unauthorized drones in the airspace around the country's central airport. The incident occurred during the night from Friday to Saturday, forcing a temporary suspension of all flight operations as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of passengers, crews, and airport personnel.

Prime Minister Luc Frieden confirmed the incident during a press conference held after an emergency meeting with the Ministers of Defense and Interior. According to the national carrier Luxair, the disruption affected over 1,800 passengers and resulted in the diversion of 17 inbound flights to airports in Brussels, Paris, and Frankfurt. Frieden noted that larger drones have been observed in the country's airspace in recent days, though it is currently too early to determine their origin.
