Cyprus government announces scheme to distribute state land to families

The Cyprus Ministry of Interior has announced a new housing initiative aimed at assisting young, low-to-middle-income families by providing access to state-owned land. In the initial phase, over 570 existing, unallocated plots of land located in various districts across the island will be made available to eligible applicants. These plots will be sold at 25% of their current market value, significantly lowering the cost for citizens to build their own permanent residences.

Minister of Interior Constantinos Ioannou stated that the program is designed to broaden housing options and revitalize rural, mountainous, and remote communities by attracting new residents. Beyond the initial 570 plots, the government plans to create additional plots by dividing further tracts of state land in communities that express interest in participating in the project. The scheme is specifically targeted at Cypriot nationals, including couples—with or without children—and single-parent families who meet established income criteria. The initiative represents a broader government strategy to improve social cohesion and housing affordability nationwide.
