Cyprus launches state plot allocation scheme for families

The Cypriot Ministry of Interior has officially launched a housing scheme to allocate over 570 state-owned plots of land to eligible families. This initiative, aimed at facilitating home ownership for young, low- and middle-income families, allows beneficiaries to acquire land at 25% of its current market value. The government will cover the costs of infrastructure, including roads, water, and electricity.

To qualify, applicants must be Cypriot citizens consisting of couples or single-parent families, with at least one member under the age of 45. Candidates must also reside in the community where the plot is located or within a 15-kilometer radius. Annual income criteria range from €45,000 for couples or single parents to €65,000 for families of five or more. Beneficiaries are required to complete the construction of a residence (maximum 150 square meters) within three years of the agreement and are prohibited from selling the property for five years after completion.

Minister of Interior Constantinos Ioannou emphasized that this project aims to support social cohesion and revitalize rural, mountainous, and remote areas. The government plans to expand the scheme by dividing additional state land in communities that express interest in participating.
