Greek national football team begins Nations League campaign in League A
The Greek national football team, under the guidance of coach Ivan Jovanovic, has begun its journey in League A of the UEFA Nations League. The team is scheduled to play four challenging matches within a short period, starting with an away game against Serbia on September 24 in Belgrade, followed by an away match against Germany on September 27. The squad will then return home to host the Netherlands on October 1 and Germany on October 4 at Toumba Stadium.
The final roster of 26 players saw several changes due to injury and tactical adjustments. Lazaros Rota and Dimitris Giannoulis were excluded due to injuries, replaced by Manolis Saliakas and Georgios Kyriakopoulos, respectively. Additionally, Giannis Michailidis replaced Pantelis Chatzidiakos, while Tasos Bakasetas was left out as he was deemed not yet ready for competitive duty. Ivan Jovanovic, who recently conducted the team's blessing ceremony, emphasized that the primary goal is to remain competitive and maintain Greece's status in the top tier of the tournament.
The team earned its place in League A after defeating Scotland in the promotion playoffs in March 2025. Following their arrival in Belgrade, the players have focused on tactical training and team cohesion, aiming to secure positive results against world-class opponents.
