Cyprus and France sign strategic partnership in space sector

Cyprus has solidified its position as an emerging partner in the European space ecosystem following a new strategic cooperation agreement signed with France. Announced by the Deputy Minister for Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Nicodemos Damianou, during his return from the International Space Summit in Paris held last week, the initiative focuses on advancing space activities, technological innovation, and scientific development between the two nations.

According to Minister Damianou, this partnership reflects the growing necessity of space technology for modern state functions, including climate change monitoring, disaster response, critical infrastructure protection, and the strengthening of national defense capabilities. The agreement marks a major transition for Cyprus, which has evolved from a mere consumer of space services into an active participant within the European framework. This advancement is supported by the island's recent status as an associate member of the European Space Agency and ongoing strategic investments in ground-based satellite infrastructure and secure connectivity facilities.
