Cyprus commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Missolonghi

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth of Cyprus, Athena Michaelidou, represented the President of the Republic of Cyprus at the 55th Congress of the Christian Association of Cypriot Scientists. The event, held on September 20, 2026, was dedicated to the theme of the 200th anniversary of the heroic Exodus of Missolonghi.

During the session, Minister Michaelidou emphasized the significance of transforming historical memory into a living experience for students. She praised the Christian Association of Cypriot Scientists for their ongoing commitment to historical education. The Exodus of Missolonghi, which occurred on the night of April 10, 1826, was highlighted as a pivotal moment in the Greek Revolution. The minister remarked that this act of self-sacrifice, despite the heavy loss of life among fighters and civilians, fundamentally altered the course of history and left a lasting imprint on European and global developments.

This conference serves as part of broader educational efforts to maintain national memory and instill values of freedom within schools. The focus remains on academic study and the preservation of historical events that shaped the identity of Hellenism.
