27-year-old man confesses to murdering his 25-year-old former partner in Igoumenitsa

On the evening of Sunday, September 20, 2026, a 25-year-old woman was murdered in a kiosk along a cycling path in Igoumenitsa, Greece. Her 27-year-old former partner, who initially claimed they had been attacked by four unknown individuals, eventually confessed to the police that he killed her following a dispute. The victim, a biologist working in mussel farming, suffered multiple stab wounds to her torso, back, neck, and leg. Authorities were alerted to the scene after a citizen discovered the victim and the suspect called emergency services.

The perpetrator was found at the scene with self-inflicted wounds to his chest, including a deep injury to his left lung. He was transported to the Filiates Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under police guard. Police investigations revealed inconsistencies in the suspect's original account of an external attack. According to the President of the Thesprotia Police Officers' Union, Vasilis Nakos, the suspect stated that he owed the woman money and that a heated argument over this debt led him to commit the crime. The case is currently under investigation as the suspect remains in custody under medical supervision.
