President Christodoulides anticipates potential developments on Cyprus settlement in New York

President Nikos Christodoulides, currently in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, has indicated that significant developments regarding the resumption of Cyprus settlement talks remain possible this week. While domestic sentiment in Cyprus remains skeptical, the President noted that numerous behind-the-scenes meetings are taking place out of the public eye to establish conditions for progress, ideally resuming negotiations from where they concluded at the Crans-Montana summit in 2017.

In addition to diplomatic efforts, President Christodoulides announced that major new investments by American corporate giants in the technology sector are expected in the near term. The President highlighted the resilience of the Cypriot economy, citing a reduction in public debt from 80 percent of GDP to 48 percent and an investment-grade rating from Standard & Poor’s.
