Nicosia police officer injured during arrest of illegal worker

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, police in Nicosia arrested a 30-year-old man for illegal employment and unlawful residence in the Republic of Cyprus. Officers visited a local barbershop following reports of unauthorized labor, where they identified the suspect working on the premises without the necessary documentation.

During the arrest, the suspect shoved the officers and attempted to flee the shop. He was intercepted a short distance away, where he resisted arrest by hitting and biting the officers. The altercation resulted in injuries to two police members, who were subsequently transported to Nicosia General Hospital. Medical examinations revealed that one officer suffered a haematoma and an eye injury, while the other sustained a dislocated shoulder.

The Central Police Station of Nicosia is currently conducting further investigations into the incident. The suspect remains in custody as authorities process charges related to the attack and his illegal status in the country.
