Major urban mobility road infrastructure project begins in Larnaca

Road improvement works under the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) have begun in Larnaca, aiming to enhance road safety, accessibility, and traffic efficiency. The project, which launched on June 9, 2026, after significant delays, is scheduled for completion in August 2027. The development is funded by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility as part of Cyprus’s broader recovery strategy.

With a total budget of 18.3 million euros excluding VAT, the initiative covers 11 major avenues, 5 secondary roads—including two in Aradippou—and 8 local streets. The comprehensive infrastructure plan features the construction of 10.4 km of bus lanes, 22.3 km of cycle paths, 13 km of pavements, and 182 pedestrian and cycle crossings. Furthermore, the project includes the installation of 174 ramps for individuals with disabilities, the upgrade of traffic lights, and essential improvements to road markings, signage, and utility networks, such as sewerage and water supply systems.
