Pension reform bill set for parliamentary review in October

Labour Minister Marinos Mousiouttas announced that the government plans to submit the pension reform bill to the House of Representatives by the end of September, with formal parliamentary debate scheduled to commence on October 13. The announcement was made during a session of the Labour Advisory Board, where the minister urged social partners to expedite their review process over the next three meetings to address outstanding questions regarding the detailed, article-by-article discussion of the legislation.

Mousiouttas noted that the core philosophy of the reform has been established for two years, following extensive consultations with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and various technical committees. While the government has already submitted its formal recommendations, the minister called upon social partners to provide their own proposals to facilitate progress. The reform's implementation target remains set for January 1. Although the fiscal impact is estimated to exceed €50 million annually, the government remains committed to daily dialogue to resolve remaining concerns before the bill reaches the House, where the final legislative decision will be made.
