Athletes scale Italian Alps to support 'Little Heroes' foundation

On September 21, 2026, a team of 20 members from the Machallekides Gym successfully completed a demanding climbing expedition in the Italian Alps. Under the leadership of fitness expert George Machallekides and accompanied by photographer Bora Markovic, the group reached altitudes of approximately 4,300 meters. The expedition successfully conquered two peaks: Balmenhorn and the Vincent Pyramid.

The primary objective of this mission was to raise awareness and support for the 'Little Heroes' foundation, which assists children battling cancer. Before departing, the group received the organization's flag from the foundation’s president, Betty Antoniadou. Upon reaching the summit of Balmenhorn, situated near a statue of Jesus Christ, the team raised the flag to symbolize hope, strength, and freedom for children undergoing medical treatment. The participants faced extreme weather conditions, fatigue, and challenging glacier terrain during the ascent. This charitable initiative served as a public demonstration of solidarity with pediatric patients, highlighting the themes of resilience and courage throughout the difficult journey.
