Fuel prices hit record highs in Cyprus

Fuel prices in Cyprus have surged to record levels as of September 21, 2026, with diesel prices crossing the €2 per liter mark in several stations across Nicosia and Paphos. According to the Ministry of Commerce’s Fuel Price Observatory, the national average for diesel reached €1.946, while the highest price hit €2.039. Meanwhile, unleaded 95 petrol averages €1.677 per liter, and heating oil prices have climbed to approximately €1.60. Market representatives and officials confirm that these hikes are part of a broader European trend driven by international market volatility and rising supply costs, which have increased by up to 46% for importers since June.

Industry representatives, including Christodoulos Christodoulou of the Petrol Station Owners Association, expressed concerns that the current tax relief measures are insufficient to mitigate the impact on consumers. Some citizens have begun crossing into the occupied areas of Cyprus for cheaper fuel, while others are forced to limit purchases to small amounts. Officials from the Consumer Protection Service state that international price drops have yet to reflect in local retail costs. Consumers face ongoing financial pressure as further price increases remain possible, depending on global oil market developments and upcoming shipping costs.
