Death toll from Filo Jet shipwreck rises to 15

The death toll from the Filo Jet shipwreck, which occurred off the coast of Kyrenia on August 30, has risen to 15 following the recovery of an additional body from the sunken catamaran on Saturday. While the identity of the victim remains unconfirmed, reports from the newspaper Yeni Duzen indicate the body belongs to a male, though DNA testing is required for official verification.

Search operations continue at the crash site using the chartered vessel Optimus Prime, although the ship's black box has not yet been located. In response to the tragedy, the administration of Unal Ustel has introduced new regulations to support the families of victims and missing persons. These measures include the provision of free legal assistance in collaboration with the local bar association, exemption from court fees and stamp duties for related litigation, and logistical support regarding housing.

Furthermore, the government has authorized access to free public healthcare services for the affected families until August 30, 2027. Officials have pledged that those responsible for the incident will be held accountable under the law as investigations into the disaster remain ongoing.
