Karaiskakio Foundation celebrates World Marrow Donor Day 2026

On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, the Karaiskakio Foundation is participating in the global observance of World Marrow Donor Day (WMDD). This year’s theme, "Heroes of Hope," aims to honor the selfless contributions of volunteer donors who provide hematopoietic stem cells to assist patients suffering from blood disorders, immune deficiencies, and specific cancers.

The foundation reports that its national donor registry currently includes over 205,400 registered volunteers, comprising both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. To date, more than 1,000 of these registered donors have successfully provided life-saving grafts to patients across 36 different countries. This event serves as a recognition of their impact within the global network overseen by the World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA), which represents over 44 million donors worldwide.

The Karaiskakio Foundation, an active participant in this 12th annual global celebration, highlights the significance of the donor-patient match process. By continuing to register new volunteers, the foundation ensures that patients requiring transplants are provided with a second chance at life through the altruism of these individuals, who offer their support without expectation of reward.
