Woman sentenced to 12 months for fatal traffic accident in Paralimni

The Famagusta District Court sentenced a 41-year-old woman to 12 months in prison on September 21, 2026, for her role in a fatal traffic collision. The court found the defendant guilty of causing death through reckless or dangerous acts, failing to comply with traffic signals, and driving with a learner's permit without the required accompaniment of a licensed supervisor.

The fatal incident occurred on June 29, 2022, in Paralimni on Korai Street. The collision involved the defendant's vehicle and a motorcycle operated by 35-year-old George Koronides. Despite wearing a protective helmet, the motorcyclist suffered severe injuries and succumbed to them shortly after being transported to the Famagusta General Hospital.

In addition to the prison term, the court imposed eight penalty points on the woman's record and ordered a three-month suspension of her driver's license, which will take effect immediately following her release from custody.
