Maccabi Tel Aviv seeks to host EuroLeague matches in Cyprus

Maccabi Tel Aviv is looking to relocate its EuroLeague home games to Cyprus for the 2026-2027 season due to the ongoing security crisis in Israel. Club president Shimon Mizrahi officially submitted a proposal to the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, during the Neophytos Chandriotis tournament held on the island. The proposed venues for these matches are either the Spyros Kyprianou Arena in Limassol or the Tassos Papadopoulos-Eleftheria Stadium in Nicosia.

While the Cypriot government has reportedly responded positively to the request, the situation remains fluid. In parallel, Maccabi's leadership recently met with EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas and Director of Competitions Diego Guillen in Abu Dhabi to discuss the return of home matches to Israel. Although no immediate changes were made, the EuroLeague officials are scheduled to visit Israel within the next two weeks to conduct a security assessment before making a final decision on the venue for the Israeli teams' home fixtures.
