Cyprus and Central African Republic establish diplomatic relations

The Republic of Cyprus and the Central African Republic have officially established diplomatic relations. The agreement was formalized through the signing of a Joint Communiqué in New York on September 21, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos met with his counterpart, Sylvie Baïpo-Temon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Francophone Affairs of the Central African Republic, to facilitate the signing. During the meeting, both ministers held what was described as a fruitful discussion regarding the potential for future collaboration. Minister Kombos expressed his intent to work closely with the Central African Republic to identify areas of shared interest and specific opportunities for bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

This diplomatic development occurs as part of a broader series of meetings conducted by the Cypriot Foreign Minister in New York, which also included bilateral discussions with the Foreign Minister of Liberia, Sara Beysolow Nyanti. No further specific collaborative projects have been announced at this time, though the move marks the formal start of a new phase in bilateral relations between Nicosia and Bangui.
