President Christodoulides holds diplomatic meetings at UN General Assembly in New York

President Nikos Christodoulides is currently in New York for the 81st UN General Assembly, engaging in a series of high-level diplomatic meetings. On September 22, he held a constructive one-hour discussion with Maria Angela Holguín-Cuéllar, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, regarding the Cyprus issue. He also met with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham to discuss bilateral relations and the status of British bases in Cyprus, asserting that the Republic is not involved in any military operations. Additionally, Christodoulides met with Javier la Rosa of Chevron to push for accelerating the development of the Aphrodite natural gas field.

Looking ahead, President Christodoulides is scheduled to address the General Assembly on September 23. His agenda also includes a crucial meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Thursday, September 24, to discuss restarting peace negotiations. Diplomatic efforts continue as the administration seeks to break the long-standing stalemate on the Cyprus issue while simultaneously strengthening energy cooperation and international ties.
