Cyprus police conduct large-scale weekend enforcement operations

Over the weekend of September 20-21, 2026, the Cyprus police conducted a series of targeted operations across the island aimed at improving public safety and combating criminal activity. Between the night of September 20 and the early morning of September 22, authorities arrested a total of 19 individuals for various offences, including illegal residency, drug possession, theft, assault, and traffic violations.

During the two-day operation, police inspected over 1,170 vehicles and their occupants, issuing hundreds of traffic citations. On the first night, 346 reports were filed, including 185 for speeding, while the following night saw 330 reports with 106 speeding violations. Officers also impounded 24 vehicles in total, raided 75 establishments, and filed four reports related to business compliance. These actions follow routine police efforts to address rising traffic and public order concerns in the region.

Authorities continue to monitor high-traffic areas and conduct checks as part of an ongoing initiative to enforce road safety and legal compliance. The police operations remain active, with further checks expected to ensure public adherence to traffic laws and residency requirements.
