Police conduct a series of nationwide anti-crime operations

Between September 21 and September 24, 2026, the Cyprus police conducted a series of intensive overnight operations aimed at enhancing public safety and combating criminal activity. Over the four-day period, authorities arrested a total of 31 individuals for various offenses, including theft, burglary, assault on police officers, illegal residence, drug possession, and vandalism.

During these operations, police officers stopped and inspected a cumulative total of 2,329 vehicles and checked 1,804 passengers. Law enforcement issued 1,330 traffic citations, with speeding being the most common violation, totaling 490 reports. Additionally, authorities confiscated 41 vehicles for various infractions and conducted numerous breathalyzer and drug tests, resulting in multiple positive findings. Police also inspected 161 commercial establishments, issuing seven reports in total for various breaches of regulations.

These operations follow a broader, ongoing strategy by the police to maintain public order and deter crime across the Republic of Cyprus. The inspections focused on both high-traffic road monitoring and the surveillance of businesses to ensure compliance with local laws. The police have not announced any specific future shifts in strategy, but these regular operations represent an ongoing effort to manage crime rates through high-visibility enforcement.
