Limassol municipality to build temporary pedestrian and cycle path to New Port

The Limassol Municipality has entered the final stage of a tender process to construct a temporary pedestrian and bicycle path along Aktaia Odos, stretching from the Limassol Marina to the New Port. Interested contractors must submit their applications by 12:00 on Friday, September 25, 2026. The project, designated as tender number 74/2026, has an estimated budget of 330,000 euros, excluding VAT.

The proposed route will connect the bridge at the mouth of the Garyllis River with the roundabout near the New Port's passenger terminal. Municipal authorities emphasize that this is a temporary measure designed to improve safety and navigation for pedestrians and cyclists in an area that currently lacks a cohesive infrastructure. This project is distinct from the comprehensive, long-term redevelopment plan currently being drafted for the coastal zone between the two ports.

Contextually, this initiative follows the recent opening of the Aktaia Odos coastal road on September 12, which sought to address decades of neglect in this industrial-adjacent sector. The long-term master plan for the area is being developed through a collaborative effort involving the University of Cyprus, Frederick University, port authorities, government agencies, and local landowners. After the tender deadline passes, municipal officials will review the applications to initiate the next phase of implementation.
