Paramount Skydance reaches settlement over Warner Bros Discovery acquisition

Paramount Skydance has reached a settlement with twelve U.S. states to resolve legal challenges regarding its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD). The agreement, which requires approval from a federal court in California, effectively avoids a high-stakes trial that was previously scheduled for March. By settling, the company removes a significant regulatory barrier that had threatened to delay or derail the massive media merger.

According to reports, the settlement terms include the establishment of independent editorial boards for CNN and CBS to safeguard journalistic integrity. Furthermore, Paramount has committed to producing at least 30 films annually, facing a $30 million penalty for each missed target. While the U.S. Department of Justice had already approved the merger in early June, the lawsuit from the states had stalled progress. There remains uncertainty regarding future staffing levels within the Hollywood operations and the ultimate long-term strategy for the news assets.
