UK Ministry of Defence to install new air raid warning system at RAF Akrotiri

The British Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth £552,238.88 with the company Acoustic Technologies to supply and install a rapidly deployable air raid warning system at the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus. The agreement was finalized on September 3, 2026, with technical specifications requiring the system to be portable, capable of independent operation, and able to cover both the military facility and the local village of Akrotiri.

The system is designed to supplement existing sirens by broadcasting distinct alarm tones for incoming air attacks and all-clear signals. It will also feature the ability to transmit live and pre-recorded voice instructions to personnel and civilians. While contract documents state the effective dates are from October 5, 2026, to October 4, 2027, there is a noted discrepancy in official reports as some sources suggest a total contract duration of five years.

This initiative serves to enhance civil and military protection within the area. Currently, the project moves toward its implementation phase under the specified terms to modernize the site's defensive alert capabilities.
