Cypriot FA rejects Anorthosis proposal for referee body cameras

Anorthosis Famagusta recently proposed the implementation of referee body cameras in Cypriot football matches, even offering to contribute financially to the initiative. The technology, known as 'Referee Body Camera' or 'RefCam,' has been tested by FIFA since the 2025 Club World Cup to improve viewer experience and referee training, though it is not a decision-making tool meant to replace VAR.

Despite the global trend and IFAB's authorization for trials in various domestic leagues, the Cyprus Football Association (KOP) has effectively rejected the proposal. KOP spokesperson Constantinos Siampoullis stated that such an innovation is currently impossible to implement in Cyprus. He explained that the country lacks the necessary infrastructure and the advanced level required to support such technical requirements at this time, deeming the project unfeasible for the current season.
