The United Kingdom has finalized a £552,238.88 contract with the Boston-based firm Acoustic Technologies to deploy a new air raid warning system at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus. According to official notices, the agreement was signed on September 3, 2026, and is intended to supplement existing infrastructure by providing coverage for both the airbase and the adjacent village of Akrotiri.

The system is designed to emit distinct alert tones for air raids, imminent threats, and all-clear signals, while also offering live and recorded voice announcement capabilities. While the initial procurement documentation referenced a five-year timeline starting in late October, subsequent notices have highlighted differing date ranges, with the primary operational period currently spanning from October 5, 2026, to October 4, 2027. The contract scope includes supply, commissioning, staff training, documentation, and ongoing maintenance support to ensure the system’s long-term sustainability.

This initiative comes amid a stated need to enhance emergency communication capabilities in the area. The procurement follows regulations set out by the Procurement Act 2023, requiring public disclosure of high-value defense contracts. The project serves to modernize emergency warning standards for the personnel stationed at the base and the local community.
