Laou Laou initiative promotes child-led urban design in Agioi Omologites

On September 20, 2026, the Laou Laou initiative transformed the neighborhoods of Agioi Omologites as part of the European Mobility Week. The event aimed to demonstrate how urban roads can be reclaimed for community use and human interaction, shifting the focus away from vehicular dominance.

A highlight of the day was an activity titled 'Our street needs green!', coordinated by Eirene Andreou, a Climate Pact Ambassador for Cyprus. During this session, children acted as urban planners, utilizing a large neighborhood map and sustainable materials—including recyclable clay and natural items—to envision a more accessible environment. Their proposals emphasized the integration of increased greenery, dedicated play areas, seating, and communal meeting spots to improve neighborhood livability.

The project was organized within the broader framework of the European Climate Pact. By engaging local youth in the redesign process, the event sought to inspire long-term changes in urban planning, reflecting the priorities of younger residents for more welcoming and pedestrian-friendly public spaces.
