Limassol Olympic Swimming Pool remains closed for repairs following storm damage

The Limassol Olympic Swimming Pool has suspended operations following severe weather that struck the city. A major storm caused a central water pipe to burst, resulting in the flooding of the facility's underground engine room and damaging essential electromechanical systems, piping, and structural supports.

The Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) confirmed that it is working to resolve the issue after receiving concerns from athletes, parents, and sports clubs. Following initial emergency water extraction by the Fire Service, technical teams from KOA and external specialists conducted inspections, identifying complex damage that requires extensive repairs. Officials estimate that the restoration process and necessary safety testing will take approximately six weeks to complete before the pool can safely reopen to the public.
