Turkish Cypriot leader Unal Ustel announces relaunch of national airline by 2028

Unal Ustel, the leader of the UBP and the so-called prime minister of the Turkish-occupied north of Cyprus, announced on September 21, 2026, that the former national airline, KTHY, is scheduled to resume operations in 2028. During a meeting of his party's central committee, Ustel stated that the project would be implemented through a public-private partnership model.

Ustel noted that the airline's return is highly anticipated, as the carrier has been defunct for approximately 16 years.
