Allegations of favoritism in the management of Turkish Cypriot properties

During a session of the Parliamentary Committee for Refugees on September 22, 2026, committee chairman Nikos Kettiros raised serious allegations regarding the mismanagement of Turkish Cypriot properties. He claimed that a public servant secured agricultural land and registered it under the name of his son, a doctor residing in Germany, who subsequently received state subsidies from the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization (CAPO).

Furthermore, Kettiros questioned officials from the Service for the Management of Turkish Cypriot Properties regarding an employee who allegedly received 1,000 decares of agricultural land. While the service representative claimed that investigations conducted three years ago by the police found no evidence of wrongdoing or disciplinary offenses, Kettiros criticized the lack of accountability. Senior official Giannos Sofokleou stated that if specific evidence is provided, the service will proceed with a new investigation into these matters.
