New leadership appointed at the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission

On September 22, 2026, George Karatzias and Loukas Lagoudis formally signed their employment contracts as the new Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively, of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC). The signing ceremony took place at the office of the Minister of Finance, Makis Keravnos, who expressed his support for the new leadership and offered the Ministry's assistance in their upcoming mandate. Although the signing occurred on Tuesday, the appointments have been officially in effect since September 15, 2026.

The CySEC serves as the independent regulatory authority for the Cypriot capital market, tasked with protecting investors and maintaining public confidence in the national financial system. According to established legal frameworks, the Commission is required to maintain close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance while exercising its supervisory duties. The transition marks the beginning of a new administrative period for the regulator, with the Minister expressing confidence that the new officials possess the necessary experience and expertise to lead the authority effectively.
