New leadership takes office at CySEC

George Karatzias and Loukas Lagoudis formally signed their employment contracts on September 22, 2026, at the office of Finance Minister Makis Keravnos to assume their roles as chairman and vice chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), respectively. Although the signing took place on Tuesday, the official appointments of both officials have been in effect since September 15, 2026.

During the ceremony, Minister Keravnos expressed his support for the new leadership, stating that the ministry stands ready to assist them in their duties. The appointments are intended to usher in a new era for the regulatory body, with the government emphasizing the expertise and experience of the selected candidates in overseeing the capital market. CySEC serves as an independent regulatory authority tasked with protecting investors and ensuring the integrity of the country’s financial system. While functioning as an independent entity, the commission will continue to maintain close cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, as mandated by existing legislation.
