Akel opposes use of British bases in Saudi mission

The political party AKEL has voiced strong opposition to the British government's decision to utilize the Akrotiri base in Cyprus for military refueling support to Saudi Arabia. The party argues that such involvement exacerbates regional tensions and exposes Cyprus to significant security risks following a March 2026 drone strike on the facility. AKEL has urged President Nikos Christodoulides to formally clarify that the country does not consent to the use of these bases for ongoing Middle East conflicts.
