Cyprus announces new schedule for citizenship and residency knowledge examinations

The Cyprus Examination Service has announced an updated schedule for the mandatory knowledge certification exams required for third-country nationals seeking citizenship or long-term residency. To accommodate the increasing volume of applicants, the government has officially increased the frequency of these examinations to three times per year starting in 2027.

The certification process evaluates a candidate's knowledge of the contemporary political and social landscape of Cyprus, including topics ranging from government structure and party leadership to the island's history since 1960 and local traditional products. The examination is conducted exclusively in Greek and is designed to assess general knowledge rather than exhaustive detail. Authorities have clarified that passing this exam is a procedural requirement and does not, in itself, guarantee the approval of a citizenship application or the granting of long-term residency status.

The Exam Service has already published the complete 2027 schedule to improve accessibility for candidates. Applicants are advised to follow official participation guidelines, as these tests are now a permanent component of the migration and naturalization framework in Cyprus.
