Cyprus energy regulator launches tender for natural gas market consulting

The Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) has initiated a tender process to appoint specialized consultants to develop the regulatory framework for the country's natural gas market. The project has an initial value of €100,000 for a one-year period, with an option for a 12-month extension and an additional €100,000 in funding, bringing the total potential budget to €200,000, excluding VAT.

The selected contractor will provide direct support to CERA, managing tasks such as infrastructure licensing, revenue determination, tariff setting, operational codes, standard supply contracts, and the oversight of the Public Gas Corporation (DEFA). Payment will be structured based on specific work orders rather than a fixed lump sum, reflecting the regulator's need to address critical regulatory outstanding issues before natural gas can be integrated into the national energy mix.

This strategic initiative aims to establish the necessary infrastructure and legal compliance required for the operational launch of the gas market in Cyprus. By outsourcing these expert missions, CERA intends to ensure efficiency and clarity as the energy sector undergoes this significant transition.
