Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis attends UN General Assembly in New York

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived in the United States to participate in the 81st high-level session of the UN General Assembly. His visit began in Silicon Valley with meetings involving high-tech companies before moving to New York for geopolitical, energy, and economic discussions. Mitsotakis is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Thursday, September 24, where he is expected to emphasize the importance of international law and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) regarding Greek-Turkish relations and the Cyprus issue.

Throughout his trip, the Prime Minister has focused on maintaining fiscal discipline while promoting Greece as a pillar of stability. He highlighted that the national unemployment rate has dropped below 8% since 2019, with nearly 600,000 new jobs created. Additionally, he held consultations with global leaders, including a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and discussions regarding energy security with companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron. Regarding bilateral tensions, Mitsotakis reaffirmed that while Greece seeks good neighborly relations, it will not accept threats or the violation of its sovereign rights.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister continues his schedule of diplomatic contacts, focusing on the resumption of negotiations for the reunification of Cyprus and the reinforcement of Greece’s defense capabilities.
