French actor and director Arnaud Denis dies at 43

French actor and director Arnaud Denis has passed away at the age of 43 after choosing to end his life through euthanasia. His death followed a long period of severe health complications which he publicly described as a total loss of personal dignity and social life, noting that medical professionals had no further treatments to offer him.

The decline in his health began on July 17, 2023, following a surgery for an inguinal hernia on his right side, during which a polypropylene mesh was implanted. Denis claimed that this procedure left him disabled and described the subsequent months as a descent into a living hell. In response to his situation, he founded a collective named "French victims of hernia implants" on social media, which gathered hundreds of testimonies from individuals experiencing severe adverse effects after similar surgical interventions.

His passing has elicited widespread shock and mourning within the French artistic community, where he was well-regarded for his contributions to theater and cinema. Before his death, Denis had spoken candidly about his suffering in an interview with the newspaper L’Est républicain on January 6, where he formally announced his intention to seek euthanasia due to the unbearable nature of his condition.
