Paphos district dam water levels show significant improvement

As of September 23, 2026, the water reserves in the Paphos district’s primary dams have reached a total of 43.3 million cubic meters, marking a significant improvement compared to the previous year. According to Alexios Frangeskou, an executive engineer at the Water Development Department, these positive results are attributed to favorable water inflows during the 2025-2026 hydrological year.

The Pomos dam currently holds the highest occupancy in the district at 67.8%, followed by the Agia Marina dam at 56% and the Argaka dam at 54.1%. Larger reservoirs show lower but stable percentages: Kannaviou at 44.7%, Evretou at 41%, and Asprokremmos at 37.6%. Conversely, the Mavrokolymbos dam reports the lowest occupancy among the major regional facilities at 34.2%.

While the overall situation is better than the same period last year, water management authorities continue to exercise caution. Despite the improved levels, Frangeskou noted that careful resource monitoring remains a priority, though there is no immediate threat regarding the water supply, ensuring continued management of the district's critical infrastructure for the coming months.
