Water storage levels rise across Paphos dams compared to last year

As of late September 2026, water reserves in the Paphos district have shown significant improvement compared to the same period last year, thanks to favorable inflows during the 2025-2026 hydrological year. According to data provided by the Water Development Department, the total volume stored in the district’s main dams is approximately 43.3 million cubic meters. While some reports from late September listed the Pomos dam as the most filled at 67.8 percent, updated figures from late September suggest even higher levels for many reservoirs, including Pomos at 85.8 percent and Agia Marina at 86.2 percent.

Despite these positive trends, authorities emphasize that cautious management remains necessary to ensure long-term water security. Officials, including executive engineer Alexios Frangeskou, have stated that there is currently no immediate risk to water supplies for either domestic or irrigation needs. Paphos continues to diversify its water supply strategy by utilizing desalination plants and reclaimed water alongside its reservoir system to meet regional demands through 2028.
