Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service responds to land allocation allegations

The Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service has issued an official response regarding allegations brought before the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees concerning the historical allocation of large tracts of land to a staff member. The Service confirmed that approximately 30 years ago, a total of 150,412 square meters were granted to the family of an employee based on procedures active at that time.

Following internal audits initiated over the last three years under the directive of Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou, in his role as the Guardian of Turkish Cypriot Properties, the contracts concerning the employee's family were officially terminated in 2024. The Service claims that the Parliamentary Committee had been repeatedly informed of these developments. However, a separate lease for 31,000 square meters remains in effect for the now-retired employee, which is reportedly utilized for agricultural purposes.

The Service has characterized recent accusations of improper conduct as unfounded, asserting that it now adheres to a policy of zero tolerance toward corruption and mismanagement. While local reporting indicates that the committee received complaints regarding the allocation, the agency maintains that its current operations are transparent and follow all legal regulatory requirements.
