Cyprus Football Association celebrates 92 years of operation

The Cyprus Football Association (CFA/KOP) celebrated its 92nd anniversary on September 23, 2026, marking its founding date on September 23, 1934. The organization was established by eight founding clubs: AEL, Anorthosis, APOEL, Aris Limassol, Pezoporikos-AMOL Larnaca, Olympiakos Nicosia, the Turkish Club of Nicosia (LTSK), and Trast.

Following the association's formation, a five-member Board of Directors, consisting of Anastasis Economides, Fanos Ioannides, Kostas Themistokleous, Neophytos Michaelides, and Mehmet Assa, was tasked with drafting the constitutional statutes. The office of the President was formally established in 1935, with Dimitris Antoniadis serving as the inaugural leader until 1936. The CFA’s primary mission, as outlined in its founding charter, remains the promotion of sportsmanship and the development of football while protecting the game from actions that conflict with sporting ideals.

The association organized its first All-Cyprus Championship during the 1934-1935 season. Since its inception, the CFA has served as the governing body responsible for regulating and upgrading the sport across the island, maintaining these foundational principles for over nine decades.
