Akamas landowners can apply for financial compensation starting October

The Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment has announced that land owners in the Akamas region may apply for financial support under Measure 1 of the local plan from October 1 to November 15, 2026. This initiative aims to compensate private landowners for keeping their property in its natural state, thereby supporting the preservation of local biodiversity and the environment. Eligible applicants, including both natural persons and legal entities, must own property within the designated urban, agricultural, or farming zones defined in the Akamas Local Plan, covering a total area of approximately 93,460 decares.

The compensation is set at €600 per hectare, with an annual limit of €6,600 per beneficiary. The program is part of a broader €25 million budget allocated from national resources for the 2024–2028 period. Interested parties must submit their applications exclusively through the online portal at www.support-akamas.com. Following the November deadline, no further applications will be accepted for this period. The ministry indicated that the measure will undergo a formal reassessment once the 2024–2028 period concludes, taking into account the program's overall performance and additional socioeconomic factors.
