30-year-old man sentenced to 18 months for vehicle theft related to Dimosthenous murder case

The Permanent Assize Court of Limassol has sentenced a 30-year-old man to 18 months in prison for the theft of a vehicle. This ruling follows the amendment of his initial charges, as he was previously a suspect in the high-profile murder case of businessman Stavros Dimosthenous, which occurred on October 17, 2025. After the charges against him were dropped, he pleaded guilty to the single charge of stealing a blue Mitsubishi Colt, valued at €4,000, along with additional property worth approximately €1,750.

Investigations revealed that on October 5, 2025, the defendant orchestrated the theft by hiring another individual for €300. The stolen vehicle, which belonged to a priest from the Church of Agios Antonios in Limassol, was later recovered on October 14, 2025. The court considered several mitigating factors, including the defendant’s admission regarding a separate pending case involving the illegal possession of a mobile phone within his cell, and his prior criminal record.

The accomplice used in the theft has been cleared of criminal prosecution and is expected to testify as a prosecution witness in the ongoing murder trial. While the defendant has been sentenced for the vehicle theft, the wider legal proceedings concerning the murder of Stavros Dimosthenous continue.
