Cardiff man dies in Cyprus following sudden illness

Paulo Brockway, a 44-year-old man from Cardiff, died in a Cypriot hospital on September 17, 2026. He had traveled to Cyprus with his fiancée, Kerry Debono, to celebrate their third anniversary. While they were scheduled to return to Wales on September 16, Brockway fell critically ill and required immediate hospitalization.

Initially, medical staff suspected food poisoning; however, subsequent testing revealed that Brockway was suffering from acute pancreatitis and that his pancreas had ceased to function. His health deteriorated rapidly following a severe infection and two cardiac arrests, leading to his death the following day. His family claims he had previously sought medical attention in the months leading up to the trip due to recurring abdominal pain and fatigue, but the severity of his underlying condition was not properly identified at that time.

His sister, Samantha Brockway, expressed the family’s profound grief, noting that the couple had been planning to marry next year. The sudden loss has devastated his relatives, including his mother and children, as the family continues to process the circumstances surrounding his medical history and tragic passing.
