Nicosia unveils major urban redevelopment plans

Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos has announced a strategic development plan aimed at revitalizing key urban areas, including Makariou Avenue, the former SOPAZ industrial site, and the State Fair grounds. These initiatives are designed to modernize city infrastructure and stimulate long-term economic growth. The proposal for Makariou Avenue is currently being finalized for submission to the Municipal Council for formal review.

During a meeting with a DISY delegation, Mayor Prountzos highlighted the significant financial challenges facing the newly unified municipality. He noted that the city's minimum operational requirements are estimated at €35 million, while state subsidies for the 2025-2026 period are limited to €22.5 million. The Mayor also emphasized the unique complexities of managing a city that remains partially occupied, while identifying the SOPAZ redevelopment as the municipality's most significant upcoming infrastructure project.
