Cyprus organic farming sector exceeds national targets

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis, announced that organic farming in Cyprus has reached 8.6 percent of total cultivated land. This achievement surpasses the national target of 7.5 percent that was originally set for completion by the end of 2027.

The sector currently involves approximately 1,500 producers across the country. Minister Senekis highlighted that this growth is supported by government initiatives, including the allocation of 22 million euros through the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy for the 2023-2027 period. The announcement was made during an information campaign in Nicosia held in observance of the European Organic Production Day, which aims to improve consumer awareness and trust in organic goods.

Looking forward, the Minister emphasized that further development of the organic sector depends heavily on consumer demand and purchasing choices. The primary goal is to increase the availability and presence of locally produced organic products on Cypriot dining tables.
