Tensions arise in Denia buffer zone as farmers refuse to yield to Turkish military

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, tensions escalated in the UN-controlled buffer zone near the village of Denia, west of Nicosia, as Turkish soldiers obstructed Greek Cypriot farmers from cultivating their fields. The soldiers, arriving in a white military police pickup, attempted to force the farmers to leave, citing a 1998 map to claim the land as their own.
