Tensions in the Denia buffer zone following farmer obstruction

On the morning of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, tensions escalated in the United Nations buffer zone near the village of Denia, west of Nicosia, when Turkish soldiers obstructed Greek Cypriot farmers from cultivating their fields. The Turkish side attempted to force the farmers to leave, alleging that the area belongs to their military forces based on a 1998 map.
